The coastal route to Josselin

The next morning we woke bright and early in our Lorry Park Campsite and inadvertently met a cool French couple after I waved at the husband thinking he was the guy who had camped behind us the night before!!

Ooops, my bad!

No wonder the guy looked so confused!

During our very broken French/English exchange he asked where we were heading and as my attempts at explaining in French were being met by blank looks I got out the map.

“Here!” he said pointing to a tiny dot on the map, “Tres Bien location!”

Smiling I looked at the tiny point. We had all day and it was in the right direction so why not!

With Peters help I set the sat nav to Pointe du Grouin. Until now the Sat Nav and I had maintained a mutual distrust of each other but Peter was determined to make us friends by the end of the trip.

The co-ordinates were tapped in and I even managed to find the page that showed the route but she was still firmly attached to Peter's side of the windscreen.

I may have allowed her into my van but I was still not sure I totally trusted her.

We drove past St Michaels Mount or Le Mont St Michel as they say in France and, following the sat nav's advice (plus a map confirmation from Peter), turned right onto the coastal road that theoretically led to Pointe du Grouin.

Half an hour later the sat nav announced we were there and to be fair she was right!!

We were now on smaller roads and although I now felt confident driving on the left I was happy to switch places with Peter for the narrow roads through the town.

The town itself is picturesque and beautiful but just along the coast the most amazing views await anyone prepared to park up and walk the last half kilometre.

A rocky outcrop of rock channels the fast moving water that flows around the point into a run of underwater rapids .

We watched a sail boat sail in and still under full sail stop dead as the current slammed into its bow in the opposite direction.

For over half an hour the sails battled the current until with a roar, the engine was engaged, the sails were dropped and inch by inch the boat motored its way through the pass.

With the excitement of the moment passed, we walked to the very tip where we found a random person to take our photo.

Unfortunately they allowed no over night parking in the area or we would have stayed the night.

We continued our travels down the coast until we found a long sandy beach with car parking facilities that gave an amazing view of the sea.

Unfortunately this place had a solid height restriction barrier that Lady Sage was definitely not going to get under so we carefully parked on the verge on other side of the road having found a pull in just big enough for my beautiful van.

I set up our lunch of cheese, bread and tomatoes and we ate in the sun while people stared at Lady Sage from a distance.

The great thing about Lady Sage is she is designed to be noticed.

Positivity sayings cover her sides and although people love to read them, they seem to be very self conscious about being seen to be reading them.

As we ate I noticed that two ladies however had no such hang ups and were happily translating the sayings and laughing as they looked over from the car park on the far side of the road. I waved to them and invited them to come and have a closer look at Lady Sage and for the next half hour we all sat and chatted about the joys of travelling.

Our guests eventually continued their walk as Peter and I headed to the beach for a stroll.

As wonderful as this place was it didn't allow overnight camping so we looked at the map again.

Josselin was 60 km away, we could be there in an hour or so.

We had also been on the road for three days now and the thought of hot showers plus the use of a washing machine began to grow in our minds.

I messaged my brother and by late afternoon we were pulling into a grassy driveway at the bottom of his garden and setting up home!

With a little help from his dogs!!!

The time had come for that much over due family reunion, plus it was about time Peter met the Falconers!!

  1. You were hoping for a shower - but seem to have gotten a dog bath instead!
