For
anyone wishing a quick weekend visit to France I really can recommend
Cries-sur-Mer!
Not
only does it have free camper parking right on the sea front ........
but
it also had amazing views, fabulous cliffs and the most wonderful
collection of stones!!!
Having
filled two large carrier bags with shells from our various beach
stops, and having been banned by Peter from loading any more, I was
amazed when he promptly allowed me to add Stones to my collection!!!
To
be fair these were not your average stones.
The
cliffs at Cries-sur-mer, although not as large as Dover are no less
impressive and as the sun began to set they positively gleamed in the
evening light.
Mixed
in with the chalk are layers of dark lava like stones many of which
had holes through the middle!
I
have no knowledge of stone formations but it looked as if at some
point these lava like stones had had chalk running through them.
Once
released from the cliffs to fall upon the beach the chalk was washed
slowly away leaving beautiful shapes with 1cm to 4cm holes through
the middle!
Leaving
Peter to watch I wandered this way and that, collecting as many holey
stones as I could find before the sun finally set.
I
collected some chalk that had recently fallen from the cliff plus a fairly large collection of stones before Peter persuaded me to return to
Lady Sage.
He
also refused to carry my basket …
.....you picked them, you carry them!!
.....you picked them, you carry them!!
Our
last night in France was spent drinking wine and playing backgammon
while less than 100m away the sea quietly washed over the stony
beach.
We had had a simply amazing time during our trip, moving from place to place each day.
We
had seen loads but knew there was still so much more to explore and
this was only one small part of Europe to be navigated!
We had also spent over 400 hours constantly together in a small van without a cross word!!
*******
We
woke to clouds and thick sea mist and by the time we reached Callis
the wind had begun to blow reminding us of the UK weather we would
soon be returning to!
Despite the weather the
Ferry crossing was calm and this time we even managed to check out
the duty free ....
......but having already stored so many bottles of French
1Euro wine in every available space within Lady Sage, we didn't buy
anything.
We
were briefly searched once we arrived on British soil
(they loved the witch, the dog and wine storage facilities!)
and as the sun set in a blaze of red that stretched across the sky we headed home to Wales.

........although we did stop just one hour away from home for a final night in Lady Sage as neither of us were ready for our trip to end!!!!
Although this trip was technically over, during our 15 days away we had made plans for many many more!!!
'Grow old with me', he said ....
...............The best is yet to come!!!!
Bravo! We've worried about how we'll do with so much "togetherness" (we live apart at home), but so far we've been fine! Congrats on the first big roadtrip!
